The Drouhin family for many years in Belgium and France, are Domaine de la Romanée-Conti exclusive distributors. It is a wine that has been reserved for more than 50 years. 


From Cote de Nuits, the two wine bottles, red Burgundy were sold by Sotheby at that staggering price. They both broke the record for one wine bottle at the same sale. 


It was reported that the bidder is an anonymous Asian collector. Both bottles of wine are among the most expensive wines in the world. 


The wine with Lot no.: 84 has an estimated value between $22,000 and 32,000 was hammered at the price of US$450,000 and was finally realized at the price of US$558,000. While the bottle with Lot no.: 85 has the same estimated value and was hammered at $400,000 and the final price at $496,000.

It is the only known in the Imperial format' for this Saint-Emilion vintage. It is among the greatest Bordeaux because of its longevity, quality, and its rarity.  


It can stay another 50 years without losing its quality. It is a quality as it was made during the intense year of 1947, which does not influence its quality negatively.

5. Shipwrecked 1907 Heidsieck    

On the list of the most expensive wines in the world is Shipwrecked 1907 Heidsieck.

It is an expensive Champagne that was planned to ship to the imperial family originally in 1916. However, the champagne got lost due to a shipwreck on the coast of Finland. 


More than 200 bottles of this 1907 Heidsieck champagne were discovered by divers in 1997. This brings about its name, Shipwrecked 1907 Heidsieck and it is listed among the most expensive wines in the world in 2024. 




6. Château Margaux 1787

It is one of the most expensive wines in the world ever broken a record at that whopping price. The bottle has Jefferson's initials, and was on consignment from its English owner in 1989, according to William Sokolin, a New York-based wine merchant. 


He initially wanted to sell it for $500,000 but no one was able to throw that kind of huge money into it. However, he took the bottle to a restaurant, where it was broken by a waiter. 


He later gets that $225,000 amount from the insurance company he claims. It's one of the most expensive wines, but not sold. At the time it was broken, it became the world's most expensive broken bottle of wine. 




7. Château Lafite 1869

The auctioneer Jamie Ritchie of Sotheby’s in October 2010, open the bidding on top wines. That day, 2,000 bottles of Château Lafite Rothschild were under his hammer including Château Lafite 1869. 


The actual estimated value of 1869 Lafite is $8,000. Lafite is very important in China, as for centuries, it is a household word. 


What is more, is the significant fact that when the region's wine merchants developed a quality categorization in 1855, it was one of just four Bordeaux wineries to receive the coveted First Growth designation. 




8. Ampoule from Penfolds

It is 750ml of this rare red wine. There are two reasons why this wine is special and command this huge amount of money. One, it was manufactured from a single vineyard. 


The second reason is its package. It is packaged entirely in a glass ampoule that has a futuristic appearance and is screwcap and cork-free. 


The glass is designed by an artist from Adelaide in order to preserve the pricey grapes and in a wooden jarrah cabinet, it is suspended within it. The value for a 150ml glass of this same rare red wine cost a staggering amount of $32,800.

9. Chateau Lafite 1787               

One of the most expensive wines in the world is Chateau Lafite 1787.

On the bottle of this pricey wine, "Th.J." is engraved in it, which is the initials of the founder's father. 


This vintage wine was sold at Christie's auction for that whooping amount because it was the oldest authenticated vintage red wine. It is a wine that has survived two centuries.

They have been making wines for centuries. This type of particular wine is made from 80% Semillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc grapes. 


The process of making it is also affected by noble rot, which is a fungus, called Botrytis cinerea or Noble rot increases the sweetness of the wine by depleting the water content.

This wine is so pricey because it is Australia’s most famous wine and its first vintage ever made.  In July 2020, in Langton’s Rewards of Patience auction, this wine was sold at the price of $103,000 to a Melbourne buyer. 


This specific bottle was particularly signed by Max Schubert and it was recorked in 1988. It is Australia's most expensive wine and certainly, one of the world's most expensive wines as well.
