The flower is also known as Rafflesia, named after Thomas Stamford Raffles, a British adventurer. There are about 10 species of monster flowers. 


They are found in the southern Philippines, southern Thailand, Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, and Kalimantan of Indonesia. They can grow up to 1.0 meters (100 cm) in diameter. 


The flower is sometimes called the corpse flower because it smells like rotten meat. The flower weight is heavy among other blooms, the largest species can weigh up to 11 kg. 


The buds are so sensitive that any slight disturbance will affect their blooming. The flowers do attach themselves to the host plant because they do not have stems or roots. 


They will never grow anywhere until they are attached to the host plant which is the Tetrastigma vine. 


The flower opens for 5 to 7 days after it attains maturity from being a bud to blooming which takes 27 months (2 years and 3 months). It takes 18 months for the tissue to form into bud, and then 6 to 9 months to mature to the size of cabbage before it blooms.




2. Tita Arum

Titan arum (Amorphophallus titanum) is popularly known as a corpse flower because it also smells like rotten flesh. As we can see from the picture above, it is one of the biggest flowers in the world, and it also serves as a source of tourist attention. 


The enormous inflorescence consists of a petal-like collar named as spathe and also an inner spike called the spadix. The Spadix can grow to a height of 3 meters (9.8 feet). It blooms for just 1 to 2 days. 



But it takes several months for it to develop. It grows very fast, and it increases around 6 inches (15 cm) per day. The flower pollinates itself after which it develops to orange spherical fruit. 


Although the flower can be cultivated in botanical gardens everywhere around the globe, the flower is native to the steep hillsides of rainforests in western Sumatra.



3. Talipot palm
