This country is also referred to as the Holy see. It is located within Rome, Italy. This country is so small that the whole area is not even up to 1 Sq Km. The size is just slightly bigger than the mall in Washington, D.C, the USA, which is 0.7 times the size of the mall. It is among the top 5 smallest countries in the world by area and size. 


It is more than 22 million sizes smaller than the US. The country's wall is in Rome. There are 14 buildings in the country including the Castel Gandolfo which is the pope's summer residence. The capital, the state, and the country itself are all the same. 


There is little to no birth in the country as the country is the seat of the Roman Catholic Church. Italian is the country's official language. It is through contribution around the world that this country depends financially.

The country is located in the Alpes-Maritimes region of France, in the southeast. It is the second among the top five smallest countries in the world by area. This country is about the size of a Mall in Washington D.C, times three. 


The country has 515 police officers which is much the per capita since the population is small and this bigger than any other country in the world. The country is known for its casino, yet, its citizens are not allowed to involve in it, it is illegal for them. 




As small as the country is, it is home to millionaires. The country is also called a billionaires playground. Even rich people from around the world also travel to this country. Many Hollywood movies have been filmed in the country because the place is connected to wealth and glamour. 


In Europe, it is the country with the most display of In-Water Yacht. The percentage of Monégasque people who are the people that are born or naturalized in Monaco is small about 21% of the population. The majority of the population of the country is made up of people from different nationalities, British, Italians, and others.

3. Nauru                        

Nauru is one out of the top five smallest countries in the world by size of the land area.

Continent: Australia and Oceania


It is an island country to the southwest of the pacific ocean. It is an oval shape island, made up of and surrounded by a coral reef. It is the 3rd among the top 5 smallest countries in the world by area. The central plateau is surrounded by coral cliffs. 


Unlike other countries, due to their small size, do not have a capital city. Four-fifths of the total land area is stripped due to hundreds of years of phosphate mining. The country has tropical climatic weather with the sea breeze. Rain is usually heavy and erratic and from March to October, the northeast trade wind blows. 


Lives are being threatened in this country as they are experiencing greenhouse effects resulting in sea levels rising, so they are at risk of flooding and surges. Due to mining, the only fertile areas are found at the narrow coastal belt, where some plants grow such as vegetables, tomano trees, pandanus trees, and coconut trees. 


About 50% of the population is made of Nauruan while others are Melanesian, Micronesian, and Polynesian. As it is part of the top five smallest countries in the world, its road round the island, as it is a sealed-off 12 miles (19 km) long. A road runs inland for several miles to the Buada District and the phosphate fields. The island is served by a daily local bus service.




4. Tuvalu

Continent: Australia and Oceania


It is an island country to the west-central of the south pacific ocean. Vaiaku which is a Fongafale islet is the country's capital city. As we can see from the area occupied by the country, it is undeniably, one of the top 5 smallest countries in the world by area. 


The country is made up of 4 coral islands and 5 atolls in which grasses, breadfruit trees, and coconut palms cover them. All in low level as the highest elevation is below 6 meters (20 feet). 


There is fear that in years to come, the area occupied by this country may be inhabitable as there is rising sea level. In 1978, the country became an independent nation. They do not have an official language but people here speak English and Tuvaluan language. Tuvalu dollar is equal to the Australian dollar is the country's currency.

5. San Marino               

San Marino is among the smallest countries in the world by land area.

San Marino is a compact republic on the Adriatic coast of central Italy, sandwiched among the Emilia-Romagna and Marche areas, and encircled by the Nation of Italy. It is one of the top 5 smallest countries in the world by area and the second in Europe. 


The land area of this country is irregular rectangular in shape. The country's terrain is characterized by Mount Titano which is 739 meters (2,424 feet) is a massive central limestone block with hills on the southwest and a gentle slope descending to the Romagna plain and the Adriatic coast on the northern side. 




Mount Titano is a UNESCO World Heritage site, it was designated the title in 2008. The climatic condition of the country is mild as the winter's lowest temperature is -7 degrees while the summers' temperature is 26 degrees. 


Despite the fact that this country is among the top 5 smallest countries in the world, there are lots of vegetation and animals to see. Elm trees, fir, poplar, oak, and olive as well as a variety of grasses and flowers, characterize the Mediterranean zone's vegetation, which varies depending on elevation. Hares, weasels, martens, badgers, and foxes are among the creatures found, in addition to domestic and agricultural animals. There are plenty of native and migratory birds to see.
